Horritt Consulting wins Defra innovation award for work on the Eden catchmentOur submission to the Defra Flood Risk Management and Modelling Competition, written jointly with Sayers and Partners LLP has won an innovation award. Our work used the Future Flood Explorer to evaluate the benefits of a wide range of flood risk management measures now and in the future under climate change and population growth. Our findings were that improvement of defences, property level protection and natural flood management are all effective ways of managing risk. Natural flood management's ability to reduce risk almost as much as developing defences is a product of the Eden's land cover and hydrological response. Horritt Consulting focusses on delivering knowledge, software and spatial data solutions for understanding and managing environmental risk.
We provide clients with two things: software/data to quantify risks, and knowledge to use this information to make better risk management decisions. By understanding clients' requirements, we can help them manage risk in a cost effective and sustainable way.
Established in 2011 by Matt Horritt, we provide flood risk related services to a wide range of clients including the Environment Agency, SEPA, the Committee on Climate Change,
global insurance clients, property developers and rivers trusts. Our services include hydrological analysis, hydraulic modelling, software development, spatial data
analysis and understanding risk and uncertainty, and technical training in all these aspects of flood risk management.
We are also committed to research and development, with involvement in projects looking at flood defence performance, global scale flood modelling, making use of open data and understanding hydrological effects of climate change.
